Fun Fall activities everyone can do

Fall activities

Summer is over and Fall is here. Kids might be back in school or still at home doing remote learning. The weather is sometimes nice and sometimes not so nice. Are you looking for something to do for you or with your host kids? Well, here are some ideas for great Fall activities.

Apple picking

Here on the East Coast, apple picking is a pretty popular Fall activity. A lot of the orchards offer fun things besides apple picking, like food stands, corn mazes, hayrides or sunflower fields (which are great photoshoot spots for all you photographic people out there).

Hiking

The US has many wonderful National Parks that you can visit and hike in. Don’t worry, even if you don’t live close to a National Park there can still be plenty of places where you can go hiking. Get a backpack with some drinks and snacks and it’s a perfect adventure, whether you do it by yourself, with friends or with your host kids. If there is still remote learning going on in your house, this is a great way to get the kids away from the screen and to exercise. It is also a great way for you to have some time to yourself or maybe meet up with friends.

Visit a pumpkin patch

What is Fall without pumpkins? It feels like as soon as September starts, there’s pumpkin everything – pumpkin spice drinks and food, pumpkin decorations and of course pumpkin carving! I love pumpkin carving and it’s definitely something I’ll take back home with me. Some people just buy their pumpkin at a supermarket but why not go to a pumpkin patch (if there’s one around)? It’s a great outing, you could go with your host kids or meet with friends and pick out your own pumpkins or use it as another picture opportunity.

Arts and Crafts

Halloween is right around the corner, so it’s time to get out or, even better, make some spooky decorations. And if Halloween is not really your thing, how about some fall decorations? Draw pictures with leaves, create things out of natural materials. The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity run free.

If these ideas just don’t do it for you, why don’t you just get yourself a nice cup of tea, coffee or whatever it is you drink, and just go sit outside? Fall is a beautiful season and even though some things might not be too pretty right now, one thing will always be beautiful – the magnificent colors of the changing leaves.
