Must see in New York: Arcadia Earth

When in New York there are many things to see and to do. The classic walk across Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, Statue of Liberty and of course the countless viewpoints. But if you’re looking for something more than just the touristy basics, I’ve got something for you!

Arcadia Earth Museum is located in New York City. Easy to reach by subway, it’s close to New York University and Washington Square Park.

Arcadia Earth is not just a simple museum. It features work by many different artists. It works with Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Project Mapping and interactive environments. With the help of their app you can scan the symbols located on walls and floors and explore the installations. Suddenly you will be surrounded by fish, jellyfish or – and this is the sad truth – plastic bags. You are completely immersed in the art. And if that didn’t convince you: it’s incredibly Instagram-able.

Arcadia Earth is attempting to draw attention to climate change, to how our environment is changing and what we can do to help. There’s an entire cave made out of plastic bags – the amount of bags used in New York City in just one day. It features jellyfish, forests and oceans. With its cool light effects and amazing VR installations it’s sure to take your breath away.

And be sure to read the information about the art installations. It’s scary to read what we are doing to our planet. We’re destroying it. But there’s hope. And Arcadia Earth not only confronts you with the sad reality, you will also find easy ways and tips to help our planet. At the end of the museum you will find their shop – with sustainable products of course.

Pictures speak louder than words, so be sure to check out our impressions of Arcadia Earth above/bellow.
