COVID-19 stories #10: ‘We will get through this’

shelter in place

During these scary COVID-19 times we have to stay strong, however difficult it may be. Some of us are dealing with homesickness, some feel scared and others try to make the best out of the situation. We are all dealing with this situation in a different way, but we want to let you know that you are NOT (!) alone. We will share COVID-19 stories from au pairs to show you that you are not the only one who is dealing with this.

Au pair from England

In the very beginning of all of this chaos I was positive about the situation. I started to get a bit nervous as the cases began to grow but for me I’m a big believer of everything happens for a reason and although right now I’m not sure on that reason I know that it will all workout.

The county I live in has been put on shelter in place. This means I can’t leave the house to go out unless it’s necessary like groceries or for health care. I am able to go on walks with my host kids which makes it easier. My oldest host kids school is shut until May 1st and I’m not sure when my youngest goes back. I am actually ok with the situation. I get on really well with my family which helps massively. They are really supportive of the whole situation and are always checking that I am ok. My host kids are amazing too and they have been adjusting quite well to being at home.

The more the borders shut the more worrying the situation becomes but I find peace in that by shutting the borders and putting everything on shelter in place then the chance of the virus spreading diminishes. It’s all a part of flattening the curve. Although the situation is out of our control right now the best thing we can do is listen to the authorities and government and hope it all helps in getting rid of the virus.

One thing I’ve done since being in shelter in place is I brought myself a guitar. For years I have wanted to learn but never had the time and now I do. I recommend picking up a new hobby whether it be an instrument, working out, crafts or anything that interests you!

I hope everyone is staying safe out there and I hope the situation calms down for everyone. It is a tough situation right now but remember we will get through this.
